Mengalum Island Sabah Day Trip - You can spend vacation day laying lazily on white sandy beaches and snorkeling in crystal clear cyan blue water. This island place is 56 kilometers away from Kota Kinabalu city center, takes about 1-1.5 hours boat ride. The island has pretty beach and shallow waters. Good place to chill.

After 2017 Chinese tourist boat mishap on 28 January 2017 where their boat sunk in the sea while on their way to visiting Mengalum island during a day trip, many local tour operators in Kota Kinabalu no longer interested in bringing tourists to Mengalum island for any day trip holiday packages.

Some of small tour operatoros do bring local tourists to Mengalum island for day trip but with strict enhanced safety precautions followed strict check up by enforcement officers at departure jetty before being allowed to go there.
